SITINET intends to outline a system of planned courses oriented towards the use and enjoyment of geological and archaeological sites, as well as the landscape intimately connected to them.
The idea of the project is to:
- develop a model to describe, catalogue and promote geological, archaeological and historical sites that can be shared across the whole Insubria area;
- share a set of data and geologically-referenced information with all partners of the region and create a “joint product” with mainly touristic-cultural purposes capable of promoting the area to a public of mostly hikers and nature lovers mindful of the connections and relationships between the environment, humanity and history. The result should be a sort of “georeferenced catalogue” of opportunities for cultural tourism, homogeneous throughout the Insubria area, which can constitute an important information base for other, more structurally “promotional”, projects;
- promote the touristic utilization of this heritage by creating a network of paths available on the Web, with different instruments for consultation, representation and development of various themes; and
- identify some sample sites, different in type and location, and develop for these a process of assigning their importance, cataloguing them, providing and distributing scientific and visual information, and including pilot interventions for the enhancement and development of these sites.
