DESCRIPTION

Spina Verde Regional Park is situated in the hills northwest of Como. The area has many interesting features: nature – with special features of geology and vegetation; archaeology – the remains of protohistoric Como; and history – from the medieval Castello Baradello to the recent trenches of the Sasso di Cavallasca. Inside the Spina Verde Park, among the numerous archaeological finds dating back to the Golasecca Culture (late Bronze Age and early Iron Age – eleventh century BCE), there are the so-called “Rock Rooms”, which represent the most ancient remains of habitation in the area. The carved rocks in the Spina Verde Regional Park can be found mainly in places adjacent to the ancient towns of Pianvalle and on the slopes of Monte Caprino.

HOW TO REACH THE SITE

Spina Verde is crossed by several paths. Among these are the 13 official trails, properly cleaned and made safe by the Park Authority annually. In the main sites of scenic, historic and natural interest, the Park Authority has installed notice boards and illustrative panels of these places. Brochures and trail maps are available free at the Park Headquarters in Cavallasca.
