DESCRIPTION

Just before the village of Introbio you can admire the spectacular leap of the waterfalls of the River Troggia which rush towards the valley running through Val Biandino. It is a place of great beauty which has influenced many writers in the past. The falls are higher than 100 metres and once, before part of the flow of water was taken for hydroelectric purposes, they must have been even more spectacular.

CURIOSITIES

Among the authors who have visited and described the place must be mentioned Leonardo da Vinci who, referring to the waterfalls of Troggia, wrote: “In Valsasina below Vimognio and Introbio, entering the road to Leccho on the right, one finds the Trosa River which falls from a very high stone into the underground, and there the river ends” (1495; Codex Atlanticus). Leonardo was probably referring to the fact that at the foot of the waterfall it seems that the waters of the stream, once having tumbled to the ground, seem to disappear in a cloud of spray and vapour, partially hidden behind some boulders which form a ring at the base of the waterfall.
